About
Joseph Mitchell

Joseph Mitchell is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Program Director for Applied Behavioral Consulting. His 13 years of experience in the field as a line therapist, team leader, and program writer give him a unique experience that allows him to successfully direct children’s programs in the most effective and efficient ways.

Joe began working with children diagnosed with Autism 11 years ago while attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. While working with the Campus Autism Project (CAP), he first experienced the power of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) assisting children with a plethora of learning and developmental delays. While discovering Behavior Analysis tactics and ABA curriculum in the CAP clinic as an undergraduate, he also worked for the Wisconsin Early Autism Project, and took a number of graduate level classes on the theories and philosophies related to Behaviorism.

Upon completion of his undergraduate degree in 2006, he moved to Chicago where he continued his work with children in a multitude of settings (school, clinic, and in-home). Joe attended The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, with a specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis.

Since that time, Joe has been working exclusively in-home where he believes the best results are achieved for the children he works with. He has served families all throughout the Chicagoland area and leads teams of highly trained ABA therapists at Applied Behavioral Consulting.

In His Own Words

“I am often asked why I dedicated my life to Behaviorism/Behavior Analysis, and I would have to say there are two attributes that stick out. The first is its inherent pragmatism. The second would be its systematic approach to solving problems, which is directly related to the first. These two attributes are fundamental values of Behavior Analysis, and our company. It was always important to me to serve my community in a positive way. In Applied Behavior Analysis, I’ve found a challenging, fun and extremely interesting way to do just that. It is my sincere honor for this group of extremely unique and talented individuals at ABC to continue in that mission.”

Just for Fun

Joe enjoys history and conversations about historical people and events. He also enjoys supporting many of the local sports teams. Despite originating from northern Wisconsin, he has always supported the Chicago sports teams much to the chagrin of his family and friends.

In his free time, he enjoys playing the guitar and exploring the vastly different parts of this country. In the last year, he has visited Philadelphia, Miami, and South Dakota.
